Where we began.... The Women in Business Task Group
The Women in Business Task Group is part of the Bristol Women’s Commission, established when the Mayor signed the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life in 2013. Made up of a group of women in business volunteers who came together to make this happen, from a range of different careers, ages, and backgrounds.
Although we parted from the Task Group into a Community Interest Company, the Task Group still runs today by Dr Zara Nanu and engages in regular and insightful discussions of equality in business for Bristol.
Where we are now... Women in Business Charter Community Interest Company
As of 1st April 2020, we launched as a Community Interest Company (CIC). A company whose sole purpose is to do something that's of benefit to the community, usually a clearly defined community, for us, that was Women in Business.
We launched the charter by the Women in Business Task Group. The goals of the charter are ambitious, and we know that they're not going to be achieved in a couple of years, so we wanted to create a team and governance structure that would support the Charter's work in the long term. The CIC structure does that.
Our belief is that businesses cannot reach their full potential if they fail to recruit and retain a gender-balanced workforce. The Bristol Women in Business Charter aims to recognise and support businesses in Bristol and the surrounding areas that are progressing towards that aim. The move to a CIC will help accelerate the pace of change to the benefit for women, the businesses they work in and the communities they live in.
So far, we're made up of three women. From varying backgrounds, careers and roles for the Charter. Learn more about us here!
