Building Balance Event with Women in Property
On 6th February 25 we had the privilege of co-hosting the Building Balance Event with Women in Property , and it left us with so much to reflect on.
The event tackled hard truths about the construction and property sectors and the urgent need to rethink how we approach childcare, adult social care, and work-life balance.
One message stood out starkly, as highlighted by Sandra Gordon, one of our directors: “Caring is not just for women.”
At some point, we’ll all rely on care—whether as parents, children, or family members—and yet the current system places an unbearable burden on women.
“It is essential that this work is valued in our society, so that we can make a choice to care for each other without it costing our careers, mental health, or financial well-being.”
The Building Balance Survey revealed the deep impact this is having on women’s careers and mental health, particularly in industries like construction. We heard stories of untapped talent and skills sitting on the sidelines because the system isn’t working. At a time of skills shortages and a need for economic growth, this is a challenge we cannot afford to ignore.
Panels and workshops provided tough but inspiring conversations. Speakers like Jo Davis, Karl Brown, Sandra Gordon, Joeli Brearley, Kate Craig Waller, Helena Stylianou, Nishi Mehta and Dom Barton shared actionable insights that motivated us to continue pushing for real change—not just in our industries but across the board.
Let’s keep the momentum going:
How can businesses and leaders truly value care work?
How do we create policies that allow people to care for their loved ones without sacrificing their futures?
We don’t have all the answers, but together, we can make progress.
