Supporting Employees Affected by Trauma: Guidance for Managers

Supporting Employees Affected by Trauma: Guidance for Managers

Signatories are invited to join us for a powerful lunchtime session led by charity and charter signatory, The Green House, designed for Bristol Women in Business Charter signatories. This session will shine a light on trauma in the workplace—what it looks like, how it affects employees, and how managers can respond with compassion, confidence, and clarity.

Trauma is more common than many realise: from childhood sexual abuse (affecting 1 in 6, with higher rates for women), to domestic abuse, sexual violence, and relational trauma. Often unnamed and deeply stigmatised, its impact can surface in work settings in ways we may not immediately recognise.

We will include open discussion and space for signatories to share challenges and best practice in their organisations.

This is a signatory only event, please sign up using the form below.

This session will cover:

  • The scale and impact of trauma, supported by research and statistics

  • How trauma presents at work, including signs managers may notice

  • What good support looks like: de-stigmatizing language, choice, agency, and a trauma-informed approach

  • Practical guidance for managers: what to do if someone discloses trauma, how to respond with care, and where to signpost

  • Support options: flexible working, mental health support, EAP, carers’ support, and local organisations in Bristol

  • Open discussion: space for signatories to share challenges and best practice
